The issue of increasing the heat resistance of refractory materials is considered relevant due to the constant complexity of production processes, smelting technologies, and metal processing. Heat resistance refers to the ability of refractory materials to withstand sharp temperature fluctuations during their operation without breaking down . Based on the practice of operating metallurgical units, approximately one‑third of refractory materials fail due to insufficient heat resistance at temperatures far below their fire resistance. Two methods are often used to increase heat resistance. The first method is based on the formation of a special porous structure (microcracked), while the second is achieved by adding carbon or silicon carbide, thereby increasing the thermal conductivity of the refractory. In aluminosilicate refractories, the mullite phase is usually the second phase, which increases heat resistance; however, the mullite formation reaction always proceeds with the release of free silica and the formation of a thermodynamically unstable glass phase, which reduces the physical and chemical properties. This study examines the possibility of obtaining a heat‑resistant structure based on mullite‑corundum refractories with the addition of zinc oxide and zinc dihydrogen phosphate, which form spinel‑like phases — zinc aluminate (ZnAl₂O₄) and zinc silicate (Zn₂SiO₄). The conclusion is drawn regarding the possibility of developing formulations of aluminosilicate refractory mixtures with the addition of zinc‑containing components.References
